Hello everyone. Recently shutting down Windows 10 triggers a message saying... Close one app and restart to save your work. Click Cancel and finish what you need. Task Host is stopping background tasks. If I wait, it returns to the Windows login screen. Pressing Shutdown Anyway works without issues. Still unsure what’s causing this. I’ve checked most suggestions: Fast Startup is off, no stuck updates, Update Troubleshooter ran, Defender Offline Scan done, and an SFC scan completed. Nothing helped. I see two Taskhostw.exe files running. That seems unusual—the file should be in the System 32 folder. It’s dated October 8, 2022, and I did receive a Windows update on that day (KB5016616 and KB5012170). Could that be related? It might not be critical, but I’d appreciate any help to resolve it. Thanks!

Task manager shows two files executing. Clicking them opens their location, both pointing to the same executable in System32. It seems only one file exists there, yet it appears to run twice. Does that clarify?

Yes, the shutdown screen displays the Task Host Window and the System32 location in parentheses.

It appears the shutdown message repeats the same information from your earlier post without additional details. This might be confusing since it lacks specifics about which program or task is being stopped.

Are you experiencing issues even when launching the system and immediately shutting it down without using the OS?
Did you attempt to boot into safe mode, and does the problem persist?
Can you display the contents of your Startup tab in Task Manager?

I'll try suggestions 1 and 2 soon. In the meantime, here is the Startup Tab...

You recently restarted the PC briefly and it worked fine, with no reference to Task Host. It might relate to the latest Windows update. Consider checking for any related warnings or logs.

Same problems mentioned earlier: The fixes suggested haven’t addressed my issue. I’m facing the identical problem as the original poster, with the same screenshot being relevant to me too. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...869f706ebb
