Hi I've recently moved and the new place has Ethernet outlets in most rooms. I currently have a broadband router plugged in at my office outlet and I have my PC plugged in behind that, this works fine. However, if I plug in my steam link directly to the Ethernet outlet in my living room, it kills the internet everywhere, neither my PC or steam link will have internet. Any ideas ? Is this a router configuration problem ? A low level (2) problem ? Or is what I would like not possible ? Cheers in advanced

All Ethernet ports are linked together. There is a switch that manages the connections for them.

It's about setting up a centralized connection system where all home ports come together at one location, linking to a patch panel and then a switch. You might also connect them straight to a switch. Would you like me to suggest a visual reference for this setup?

The primary entry to the residence is located in the garage, where all connections seem to converge; however, there isn't an Ethernet port available.

You're likely dealing with a non-networking telecom box. The main hurdle will probably be figuring out how Ethernet cables are routed inside the house. If everything connects to that box, it might clarify what's happening, though seeing only the front won't give much detail.

I believe you're using phone lines with RJ45 ports instead of Ethernet cables. Your router likely connects via DSL for internet access, and you're streaming directly through the phone line.

It matches exactly what you intended, though focusing on phone usage only. In theory, everything could be adapted if there’s actually CAT5 available in the walls.
