If I were you, I’d suggest letting him stick with his current OS since Windows 10 has some issues that could increase his frustration. However, it does have great features. You might want to mention DX12 and its lightweight nature. But if I were you, I’d recommend Windows 7/8/8.1 instead.

I've only just set up Windows 10 yesterday and I'm not fully prepared to share details about it. There are a few important points before you upgrade: Auto Updating Drivers – Windows 10 will handle driver updates automatically, which is usually beneficial. However, if you have an AMD GPU and for some reason it doesn't work unless you're running the 2013 Driver, that can cause problems. When I first upgraded, everything updated and many crashes occurred. Overall, it seems like a solid operating system.
I see several reasons against upgrading beyond the benefits of Windows 10. In fact, there are only a couple of clear advantages for it. (Personally) The main pros are DX12 / lighter performance and faster speed, though it's unclear if either is significantly better than other options.
It doesn't matter since the adjustment was made; the system kept updating the driver. This operating system is nearly useless. I'm really happy using OS X as my main platform.
