Windows 10 comes with a few issues, yet it offers some great capabilities. It's quite challenging to suggest it overall.

Windows 10 has some issues and isn’t perfect yet. It’s normal for a new release to have launch hiccups. Allowing it time to stabilize is sensible. If they plan to wait months before fixing everything, that’s okay. Just let them proceed and move forward. The main point is the convenience of using it now or adopting a few new features later. Still, the problems haven’t been fully resolved, which explains the many discussions about broken features.

I anticipate MS will quickly remove Windows 8.1 and push users toward Windows 10.

What if that new model had the chance to not work at all, and now you're left without a car eh? What if it had the chance to randomly turn off in the middle of driving down the freeway at 70mph? Not too pumped now are you. Windows 10 has issues, there is very little reason to switch RIGHT NOW if you have an OS that is working and proper. Give it a month or two to work its problems out, that's the most rational thing to do.

Everyone follows their own path—don’t push anyone into actions they don’t want. A better approach would be to install it first and then revert to an earlier version (like 8.1) so he can keep his free license intact and secure the correct product key for his current motherboard.
