Hello, I own an R5 3600 paired with a Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite that hasn’t been modified (no overclocking, no PBO, etc.). I added an Arctic Freezer 34 cooler with two fans. The case provides good airflow, featuring three inlet and exhaust fans running at full speed. During Cinebench R20 benchmarking, temperatures rise quickly to around 95°C and remain stable, with all cores running at 3.8 GHz. This suggests thermal throttling is occurring. While gaming, temperatures reach about 60-80°C depending on the game and workload—definitely noticeable. The Vcore reads 1.25V under load and peaks at 1.45V in idle. I applied too much thermal paste, cleaned the cooler and CPU, and re-applied paste, but results didn’t improve. What’s going wrong? I’ve asked several forums, but no one has a clear solution. Thanks.
Ensure the cooler is properly positioned. Apply thermal paste as needed. Refresh the BIOS and check temperatures with hwinfo64 or Ryzen Master.
Consider reducing the exhaust fan speed. It might be drawing air from the front of the cooler, reducing airflow. Check the fan on the right side or near the front of the case above the cooler—switch it to intake so fresh air reaches the CPU cooler. Good luck!
It runs smoothly at 60-65°C right after startup, and once the thermal paste sets it drops to 40-45°C at idle.
Have you modified the fan settings in the BIOS? Consider setting them to 3500rpm or full speed for all temperatures to observe if they increase and help cool the chip. If so, fine-tune each temperature individually. If not, ensure proper thermal paste application—neither too much nor too little is ideal. Confirm all four mounting posts are securely tightened. If results remain poor, check the cooler clamp bar for any bending; it must maintain even pressure. Gently adjust it and reattach. Verify that the fans coordinate effectively, directing airflow through the cooler rather than opposing each other. Finally, experiment with manual voltage settings between 1.10-1.25v to achieve lower temperatures with consistent performance. Good luck!
