High idle temperatures on Ryzen 3600 even with a good cooler
Good morning. Your setup shows strong thermal performance with the Ryzen 5 3600 and quiet cooler, but idle temps remain high at around 60°C. Even with optimization and energy-saving settings, the CPU draws only about 10W. Consider checking for dust buildup, ensuring proper airflow, or upgrading to a higher-end cooler if temperatures persist.
Verify the CPU cooler installation. It might have been improperly seated or thermal paste was insufficient. Be cautious with pea size in the Rzyen 3000 series since not all components are centered on the die. 2. Determine the maximum load temperature. Typically, the 3600 operates within 1V to 1.475V under full load, which could also be a factor. If temperatures stay below 80°C during full load, it's acceptable.
What BIOS and chipset drivers are installed? Are you using the Windows or Ryzen Balanced power plan? How is the airflow in your case?
Verify your power configuration, for improved temperatures select balanced, or proceed with Ryzen high performance if you prefer lower temperatures.
I believe the thermal paste is acceptable since I noticed slight bulges on its edges, except near the corners. I performed a visual inspection. Operating temperatures remain under 80°C even during maximum load, but with my present configuration the CPU operates at 3600 MHz and draws about 30W.
Airflow is working well and the cooler remains only mildly warm. I'm using the Ryzen Balanced power plan with the newest chipset drivers installed.
It seems the CPU temperature doesn't seem to reach the cooler properly. I wondered if the connection might be loose or if the settings are too extreme. Could the memory module be faulty? Maybe the heat pipes aren't working well when it's below a certain point? Or is the chip not firmly attached to the heatsink? While I could turn off the fans, the temperature controls would likely be far from Asus's recommended values.
I've got the most recent BIOS updates from Asus. The temperatures match what I see in both Bios and CPU-Z, which gives me confidence.
