Hi everyone, I've managed to acquire the new AMD 5800X CPU, but after several attempts with different cooling setups, I'm still facing high idle temps—around 55-65°C, peaking at 80°C during gameplay and staying under 84°C at full load. Your setup diagram shows three intake fans paired with two exhausts. Initially, I used Noctua thermal paste and switched to Artic MX4, which only slightly improved things. I've also adjusted the fan curves from their default settings, but it's quite noisy. Is this a problem with the chip itself? Thanks, Shaun.

I checked Noctuas site and saw the cooler suggested for their stats—it seemed adequate. For now, I don’t think an upgrade is necessary. The AMD-Ryzen 7 5800X-1046 model looks solid.

okay i dont know about 5800x but I did have the same problem with my r7 3700x. your set up seem to be fine so does your cooler. I would add another fan to the top though. You should go into your bios and checck the Core voltage that your cpu is running. If its on auto, it will spike up and down. from my experience ( my 3700x, it spike from 48-65 , randomly ) and its annoying when you have your fan curve set up. I fixed it by setting my Core voltage to manual at 1.300v. it was on auto and it was running hot with the spikes. with the fixed manually core voltage, my temp has been stable at 37-45 idle and 55 under load. You can test the core voltage best for your cpu, no harm nor performance lost under voltaging your cpu.

You can expect lower temperatures when running the fans at full speed. For cooler results, consider the larger D15 model, but you might want to check PBO settings online. Some users have noticed undervolting reduces heat while maintaining or boosting performance.

On the same setup with my 5800X, Corsair H100i 240mm AIO, idle stays around 47°C in gaming mode and 70°C under load, while CPU-Z stress test hits 80°C.

Used my 5800x for three days, cooled with a 240mm air cooler. Temperatures stabilized in the high 30s to low 40s on idle and high 70s to low 80s during bench testing. This adjustment was made using the curve optimizer under pbo, setting stacks or whatever parameters to -25 across all cores. Also experimented with -30 on all cores, which led to even cooler temps and boost clocks reaching 4.75ghz sustained in bench, though the system became unstable at idle (1-2 crashes over five to six hours), but no issues during load testing.
