Even though the video presents a strong case, it's wise to remember that preparing for multi-core gaming should also consider potential future changes.

It makes a noticeable jump when you move from 3.4ghz to 4.0ghz, it's unlikely you'll reach even higher boosts at typical voltages. I wouldn't rely on purchasing an older i5 solely for pushing its limits, considering the risks and uncertainties. For long-term viability, it's better to observe what the 6c-12t R5 and 4c-8t R3-R5 can achieve in overclocking first if you're not eager to wait. If you're aiming for future-proof performance and can't delay, a 1700/1700X will work well—provided AMD and other developers deliver optimized support for 16 threads.

Sure, I've got some free time, and maybe switching to a high-performance gaming rig isn't the best idea right now.

Ryzen appears excellent and offers solid value, though new GPU/CPU releases often come with occasional hiccups. Most problems should be resolved by the time R5 hits (maybe May-July), and we’ll likely see more consistent benchmarks soon.

I’m really supporting team red at the moment. Vega is coming up soon too... What an exciting time to be here.

My 6700k and 1070 can definitely push fps in r6s above 100 at all times. I can get up to 200 fps if I drop a few settings, and yes this is at 1440p.
