High CPU usage between 80° to 100° requires assistance
Alright, ever since my little brother downloaded what he believed to be a free game i have experienced some serious issues with my PC, i have ran multiple test and completely reinstalled windows for a USB, however i was still getting problems afterwards. But then i realised my CPU was hitting 100° under-load, i need help to fix this. I am using an i5 4460 CPU with an Corsair Hydro Series H100i 240mm, i have checked to see if anything was wrong with the system physically and all seems to be in order.
I reused thermal paste yesterday and it didn’t seem to affect the temperature afterward. The radiator appears normal, background tasks didn’t show any issues when I started the system, and upon booting directly into BIOS the temperatures remained high.
Did you verify the pump in the AIO? That seems to be my primary assumption.
If the AIO draws power from the motherboard, you should notice its current speed. Corsair likely offers a tool to control the AIO through the motherboard (often via USB). The issue might stem from injected code in a "free game" that persists after reinstalling Windows, or it could be hardware damage from a virus—such as overheating the CPU or fusing a power rail. That’s a bit extreme, so check other factors first. Edit: Also consider how your AIO is mounted; an air bubble could cause performance drops due to poor positioning.
Ensure the system is active and monitor the CPU for grinding, squealing, or bubbling sounds. If detected, the pump may be damaged for the initial two minutes. Verify your BIOS settings for fan configurations—your AIO pump connects to a header on the board and might default to silent or off if not configured correctly. Reviewing other fans' settings is also recommended. Additionally, check the CPU voltage and temperatures on an Intel XTU board; a sudden jump to 100°C upon startup could signal a mounting or thermal paste problem, while a gradual rise suggests a pump or fan issue.
Sure, I'll take care of it when I wake up tomorrow, thank you.
