Hey there. Looking for some FPS games that are chill and fun, not too intense or stressful. You want something with solid graphics and a good action feel—no war themes, no puzzles. I’m not into COD or Battlefield, but I’m open to recommendations like Doom, Serious Sam, Far Cry serial, Light Dying, or similar titles. Just keep it simple and fast-paced, with plenty of shooting action and not too much overthinking. Horror options like Silent Hill, Alan Wake, or The Eternal Within could also work well. Let me know what you think!
I enjoyed Far Cry 5 immensely—it stands out as my top pick so far, and it felt rewarding to escape the jungle. The latest title seems less impressive in my eyes, but who can say? Unreal Tournament (1999) and Unreal (1998) definitely have a bold aesthetic, yet they excel in storytelling and music. Unreal is actually one of my all-time favorites; it might be a bit dated now, but its beauty and impact remain strong. I recall the 1998 release vividly—it was a defining Crysis for its time. We owe much of today’s gaming to Unreal and Half-Life from 1998. Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal are outstanding, making a perfect choice. I’m currently doing my third run through Doom 2016, and it’s impressive how polished everything looks, how smoothly it runs, and just how flawless the controls feel. A solid FPS that really highlights the flaws of overhyped ray tracing. Titanfall 2 surprised me greatly in single-player, with inventive design and top-notch gunplay—truly a great experience. Those familiar with Cause and Effect know exactly what I mean, and I’ll always feel emotional about BT. Red Dead Redemption’s mechanics, though you can enjoy it at your own pace. It’s a solid pick for relaxation. I cried a bit at the end. Black Mesa is an excellent remake of Half-Life 1, also ranking among my favorites. It looks stunning, and Xen truly shines compared to HL1. BM is comfortably in my top ten.
2 a.m., five middle schoolers gathered, each with a Pentium 2 and either Rage’s, TNT’s, or Voodoo’s massive CRTs. They were sipping Mtn Dew, munching Cheetos, and the air buzzed with the sound of headphones blaring M-M-M-MONSTER KILL... Kill..kill..... GOOD TIMES!
Choose the latest doom titles for a thrilling FPS experience with engaging point-and-shoot gameplay and solid enemy weaknesses. For a horror experience, try The Medium—it's solid if your system can handle its limitations. If you prefer something softer, Edith Finch offers a charming narrative with smooth mechanics.
If you liked Alan Wake. There's also Alan Wake's American Nightmare. The game itself is much shorter than the original Alan Wake, but in my opinion has slightly more refined combat. There's also an arcade mode that lets you take on hordes of Taken, which is pretty fun. Then there's Remedy's most recent game, Control, which is visually very good and I really enjoy the combat. It's more out-there story-wise than Alan Wake, but if you enjoyed AW, I'm guessing you'll like Control, too.
Hey friends, I’m looking for some newer games to try. I really enjoyed HL 2 and Quake 2 on RTX versions, plus Dishonored and Rage 2. Silent Hill is a big favorite of mine, along with the entire Dead Space series. I’m also interested in similar experiences but avoid anything too frustrating or confusing.
