Hello,
I purchased a new Windows 11 gaming PC from the store with Windows 11 Home. I received an unused 64-Bit Windows 10 Pro product key via email from electronicfirst.com two years ago. I looked up activation settings on my new machine and followed the upgrade instructions from home to Pro. After entering the product key, I clicked next, and Windows initiated the download, preparation, and upgrade process. My PC restarted successfully and the upgrade completed without issues so far.

Now Windows displays a message stating that Windows 11 Pro is not activated. I’m trying to resolve this so I can use Windows 11 Pro. If fixing it isn’t possible, I need guidance on downgrading to Windows 11 Home as it was before. Additionally, if there were problems with my Product Key, why did Windows allow the process to proceed without any error or warning?

Best regards,
H

sound like the windows 10 pro key is not legit
how much did you paid for it?
we can install without a key. only when activation
as far as I know there is no downgrade, so fresh install to get back to home edition

It really focuses on the main point, doesn't it? This is one of the reasons against buying grey market keys. I also agree with a fresh update to the W11 home version you bought for this PC.

Are you suggesting a complete wipe and starting from scratch with a new Windows 11 installation?

Are keys from electronicfirst.com valid? Also, if you don’t see the Windows product key on the PC or packaging after unboxing, how will you activate Windows 11 Home during a fresh installation when you can’t locate the key? If you manage to get the Home product key from the store, can you enter it in the Windows activation settings to switch back to Pro and then Home?

The offer of a Win 10 or 11 Pro for $10 is completely unreliable. You need to wonder how they managed this. There’s no legitimate discount channel from Microsoft involved. It feels like someone is trying to sell a brand new 75" Sony TV for just $25 or a 16TB SSD for $50—clearly a scam. Running with it would be a laughable mistake.

This appears to be a prebuilt system with an already installed and active operating system. A simple reset and reinstall should resolve any issues. The important point is... yes, it should work. Was it Windows 11 Home? If so, reinstalling it should fix everything.

It's a prebuilt PC with Win 11 Home already installed. What if it doesn't have the 'Should' option? I'm having trouble finding the Windows 11 Home product key again after a fresh installation. Are there options for a clean Windows 11 Home version without bloatware or extra background processes? Can I install it without any activation issues?

It should activate. Cross the "doesn't" bridge when that occurs. Obtain and install a fresh WIn 11 Home from Microsoft directly. Windows 11 download The installation process is nearly identical to Win 10: How To - Windows 10 clean install tutorial For those seeking a Windows 11 clean install guide, you’ll find it here: Windows 11 Clean install tutorial (Click here) Alternatively, if you prefer the Windows 10 clean install instructions, this tutorial is designed to walk you through a complete clean installation of Windows... forums.

It is most likely secure using a "Hardware ID" after restoring the correct version for the same PC. It would be a good idea once completed to link this OS license to your MS account.

What is the Hardware ID?
I ran a Windows 11 PC without an associated Microsoft account. Please let me know.
