If you buy another Win 11 pro product key and use it to change the key in Windows, you avoid having to delete everything and start over. If the new key activates correctly and shows the activation notice, then you can relax and everything is resolved.

Typically the outcomes have been quite different from what others experienced.

Hardware ID is the specific components of the PC that you are activating OS on. When you activate the Hardware ID of the system as it is built is saved to the authentication such that you don't have to use/find your key any time you have to re-install or whatnot. In that alone, it is handy. The issue that often arises are things such as if you have to change a motherboard then you have to have "assistance" from MS to reactivate. I have had it happen for CPU updates as well. Typically speaking, they will do this 2-3 times before refusal and then the option is typically to buy a new key.
Once you activate and have this Hardware ID, you can surf online to your MS account and will see that PC as one of the registered devices to your account once you 'log in' to MS on it. That is handy in case of the above parts change situation where it makes it easier to reinstate if a problem arises. At the same time, if you sell the PC with the OS intact you can also disassociate it from your account so the next owner can.

Hardware ID determined by the CPU or motherboard? Upgrading the CPU might require a new Windows product key, right? And if the user hasn't linked an MS account to the Windows OS?

When installing from a USB stick, it's generally safe to use the front USB ports of the PC. The back ports are typically reserved for expansion cards and should not be used during installation.

As discussed, they will help with reactivation about three times in my own case. The online support feature includes a prompt for "changed configuration." You don't need to link your MS account, though it makes tracking easier in my opinion.

Yes, the front ports should function.
If they don't, then attempt the rear ones.

I secured the Product License Key for Win 11 home from the retailer where I purchased the PC. In the activation options, selecting the change key feature should restore the previous configuration.

This feature is designed specifically for activating a Windows 11 Home setup. It does not undo previous installations of Windows 10 or Windows 11 Pro that were set to Home mode.
