You're asking about what upgrading to the 7700 means and whether it affects performance negatively over time.

I’d consider a Ryzen 5600 or Intel 12400f setup. With your existing DDR4 setup, you’re likely ready to purchase a CPU and motherboard. The 7700K offers some improvement, though it’s not strong enough for 2024 demands. If you have one, it would give you a marginal advantage, but you’re still far from reaching your goals.

I get that just boosting the GPU might not be enough. I’m glad you found the advice useful, especially since you usually invest a lot.

They work well though; just outdated. The funds would be more useful for a current system.

You haven't worked with motherboards before, so start by researching popular options online. Look for reviews, comparisons, and recommendations from trusted sources. Check compatibility with your computer specs and consider factors like build quality, warranty, and customer support.

It should run about $100 to $120 in the US market. It remains a 4-core processor, but that’s not recommended. The safer choice would be what Linus demonstrates in his Junk Yard Wars videos—just don’t rely on a used deal. Of course, second-hand items come with their own uncertainties.

It seems the 4 core 8 thread chips are showing signs of wear, which explains my aversion to the current i3 model. Probably the processor has limited RAM—around 2133 or 2400MHz speeds. I’m not sure if the manufacturer is aware of this.

Yes, having 2133 could pose an issue if you change the motherboard.

It would just be a constraint with 3200 or 3600MHz RAM. Not catastrophic if you're tight on funds. For motherboards, check reviews, search for compatible boards for your CPU, or ask in the forum. I’d suggest using this at least... as long as you have an ATX case. You won’t need a PSU upgrade right away, but aim for one around 400W soon—likely outdated. Also, can you swap out the components? It’s not complicated, though it might feel overwhelming for someone new. PCPartPicker Part List: CPU – AMD Ryzen 5 5600 3.5 GHz 6-Core ($125.29 @ Amazon); Motherboard – Gigabyte B550 GAMING X V2 ATX AM4 ($99.99 @ Amazon); Memory – Silicon Power GAMING 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 ($33.97 @ Amazon). Total: $259.25. Includes shipping, taxes, and discounts if available. Generated by PCPartPicker 2024-08-05 17:47 EDT-0400.

Higher RAM speeds improve the newer CPU's efficiency, though with a very weak GPU and a strong CPU, the gaming impact may be minimal. A 12th generation i5 can significantly enhance performance even at standard RAM rates. I recommended faster RAM for future upgrades, as it’s affordable within a $200–$250 range. You could also consider used bundles to save more. Edit: Should I ask which game you're playing?
