They suggest the MSI Tomahawk Max since it comes with Ryzen built-in, though it's currently unavailable. Are there other motherboards that include Ryzen right out of the box? Also, do you intend to use a 3700X model?

All MSI B450 ATX models are compatible with the third generation and can update their BIOS independently without needing an additional CPU.

For the 3700X it's best to choose an entry-level X570 such as the Prime. If you can spare a $300 processor, you can get a $150 motherboard instead of a $100 one.

A B450 MAX MSI unit works fine without a BIOS upgrade. ... There’s no need to buy the X570 if you require eight cores.

the tomahawk handles 3600 smoothly, and since the 3900x performs similarly to a 2700x, it confirms its capability, but I still can’t find a clear explanation for this
