Have you started to miss playing games?
I suspect the balance of rewards versus effort is off. That’s my take on myself and machine learning. Haha. For you, it’s even worse—the model in Blender seems really unimpressed, draining your motivation with every glance. Joking aside, it would look pretty if I tried. I’m hoping a personal AI will hit the market soon for a reasonable price. Once that happens, I’ll ask for help making a 3D model for it. You’d better jump back into Blender, okay? If you share the model you mentioned, it’ll be a really sad AI.
It’s typical. The condition worsens with age and added obligations. It’s interesting how some games still spark your curiosity. For me, Far Cry 5 and Assassin’s Creed Origins were favorites, but I struggled to complete the DLC for either. Both took months of my time. Now I have two children, a job, and other interests that quickly take over any free time or enthusiasm I once had for gaming. They really pushed me with Street Fighter 5 and Soul Caliber 6—bought them cheap and played them briefly. Fighting games no longer appeal to me, even though I spent nearly 1,000 hours on Soul Caliber on Wii. Mario games now make me want to throw up, despite being my only childhood favorite. I usually manage around two hours a month on Rocket League, that’s about it. Building my latest PC cost me close to $3,000 and it didn’t justify the effort. You learn your limits, I suppose. I did have a nice setup for TurboTax this year though… let me share that story.
I think it’s best to increase the challenge by revisiting old favorites and diving into games at their highest difficulty settings. For me, it takes real experience—playing a game at its full recommended or even extreme difficulty—to truly understand what it offers. Try to become proficient in a title before assuming you’ve reached enough. Not every game is just about speed; sometimes it’s about grasping the deeper mechanics of a series. Occasionally it’s about enjoying the satisfaction of mastering everything possible and chasing that last big milestone or achievement. I’ll grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and fully immerse myself in the game to relive that childhood dream.
It might be time to explore a different pastime, as stepping away from gaming or simply connecting with others has rekindled my passion for it. Your feelings are similar; I’ve faced the same challenges in my early twenties. I’ve found that discovering new interests and joining communities helps me stay engaged. I also began attending gaming podcasts and joined Discord groups to chat about games, which made my free time more valuable. Listening to discussions and exploring titles I might have overlooked helped me discover fresh perspectives. Sometimes, the right choice is choosing what excites you most. I prioritize activities that bring joy and allow meaningful interactions. While hobbies can be costly, adjusting your spending on gaming can make it more manageable. I’m passionate about peripherals and music, often discussing gear with friends. Photography is another hobby I admire—it’s a skill that grows over time and offers a break from screens. It’s a great way to unwind and connect with others. If you’re open to it, I’d love to hear more about your interests!
