Have you checked for BIOS updates?
I built my first computer 2 years ago and I have never updated my BIOS of my MSI motherboard. I read that you should not update your motherboard BIOS unless it is recommended by the manufacturer or when you've diagnosed a problem that it will fix. How do I know their is a problem that it will fix if on the manufacturers website it just gives generic and vague descriptions of what it will update, i.e update CPU microcode. But what in the microcode is it updating. Does anyone know how I can tell if the update is important and when it is fluff
You don't need to worry unless you're having problems with the BIOS. If it's working fine, it doesn't matter. But if you're facing issues, try a newer version to check if it helps. The only fixes that really count are for security updates like Spectre and Meltdown—make sure they're clearly listed on the BIOS settings page.
Their is one that says Update Intel Micro code for security vulnerabilities. Is this important?
It seems to matter a bit, even though they don’t specify the exact flaw. It’s likely not a major issue, but staying current is wise. I’d make sure you’re at least using that version; if you’re on an older system and planning an upgrade, switch to the latest BIOS. Generally, updating to the newest version is the best approach.
Check your system settings or run a command to list installed applications.
