I used the EVGA overclocker, but still experience crashes. It seems fan speed isn't the issue (temperatures are normal). I'm having trouble getting a steady overclock with the stock settings (+100 core, +100 memory).

I achieved it using +125 core clock and +250 memory clock... also with 112%... I hope it helped

I also own a G1 Gaming 970 gtx, you should verify your GPU's overclocking capabilities. Many users have successfully boosted this GPU to 150+ and 500+ with high memory, but it doesn't work for me. I have a V850 Cooler Master PSU, which means power supply isn't an issue. It performed well only at 140+ / 390+ that's its upper limit, so you should experiment with different settings. Begin by lowering the clock speed to 140 or 130 and consider increasing memory to 350.

What enhancement comes from increasing the memory clock speed? It improves performance. If you're stuck with a limited core clock, raising the memory clock can still offer some benefits.

Why do you require an overclock? Isn't the 970 powerful enough?

With a 550w psu I doubt it will suffice. I also need to run the GTX970 G1 gaming, and I recall the box stating a minimum of 550 watts. It seems there might be insufficient power.
