GTA 5 runs smoothly without exceeding 4GB VRAM on a GTX 1070
Hi.
Here is my PC setup:
Processor - Ryzen 5 1600X (clock speed up to 3900MHz)
Graphics - ASUS GTX 1070 Dual (core overclocked to 2025MHz, RAM 4300MHz)
Memory - Kingston DDR4 2400MHz (core overclocked to 2800MHz)
Storage - MSI B350M Pro-VDH (latest BIOS)
Power Supply - Xilence XP730R8 730W
I’m experiencing an issue in GTA 5 Online where I can’t maintain a steady 60 FPS at 1080p.
The performance drops significantly in city areas. During city driving, my FPS fluctuates between 52 and 62, sometimes falling to 45. I’ve adjusted settings without much improvement.
I wonder if GTA 5 is using less than 4000MB of VRAM. Could this be the cause of the FPS drops in more detailed city environments?
Additionally, how can I increase the VRAM usage to improve loading times?
I’ve had this build for a week now, so I’m running a fresh Windows 10 installation with the latest drivers.

The 4gb size isn't important as long as your GPU is running at full capacity. Are you using a high antialiasing level? That's what affected my performance on the 1070.
How much RAM do you have? If it's 8GB, that's likely the issue.
Check the thermal performance; if temperatures rise excessively, it may indicate thermal throttling.
I changed nothing, but I still maintain the same performance levels. Even with a 16GB Ballistix Elite 3000MHz RAM, I’m only achieving 55-65 FPS in real-world conditions. The combination of Ryzen 5 1600X, GTX 1070, and 16GB RAM isn’t sufficient for a stable GTA 5 experience.
GTA performs significantly better on Intel, that's what I understand. However, the PC listed in my profile gives me around 30fps on average.
I believe the right settings are MSAA and Reflection MSAA. When I set them to X2, I achieve around 70-80 FPS. All other settings are maxed out on my GTX 1060 with 6GB of RAM. Even with some advanced options enabled, it still works well. I’m curious why your 1070 seems to hit a limit of 4000MB.
