Hi there, I'm just assembling a basic PC from salvaged parts for someone. You have an old MSI 970 Gaming, which is still functional but might need some adjustments. It has both 8 and 6 pin power connectors, and I initially thought it was a simple choice, but upon closer inspection, it actually requires both types. The new PSU I found only supports 6+2 connectors, which isn't ideal. Since it's an older model but still reliable, I'm considering upgrading to a newer PSU that matches the 6 pin setup. I have spare Molex and SATA cables, and according to the original manual, the 970 Gaming came with an adapter for Molex to 6 pin. I might look into that option and see what others recommend. I'm not a big fan of Molex adapters, but maybe a SATA version could work. I'll go with what experts suggest and see if it fits. Cheers, Phil.

Choose an adapter that fits Molex or SATA, as SATA isn't built for high current. The real issue is PSU replacement time.

The 970 uses a 1 molex adaptor, which is quite basic—each port is an 8-pin card. This adapter should fix the issue; if you're worried, try updating to gpu-z for more detailed power usage info from the GPU ports.

It seems the 970 model is outdated for handling per-input details.

I recently used GPU-Z on my testing setup, which has a 970 installed, to obtain that data.

Absolutely, that's likely what was included from Kepler.

I have the log attached, if anyone cares to see it. One is ODS, and the other is text, but the data is the same. GPU-Z Sensor Log.ods GPU-Z Sensor Log.txt

It's an older EVGA model. The text is unclear, but I'll attempt to clarify. Are you looking for advice on a Molex adapter or need help identifying the issue?

Would this work? It seems confusing why there are two options.
