Got a Blue Screen of Death while trying to start up Windows 11? Here are some tips to fix it.
What am I missing? My Corsair Vengeance I7400 Gaming PC keeps throwing BSOD while trying to install Windows 11. I have a brand new SSD, two fresh sticks of DDR5 RAM, and a totally new RTX 3050 just in case. It looks like the problem is probably on the motherboard since everything else feels fine. The machine usually crashes right away after the first reboot when it tries to install from a USB stick onto an empty drive.
What is the motherboard model? What is the current BIOS version of this board? Can you tell me exactly which memory sticks are in each kit, or were they all bought together as one unit, or did you buy two different sets separately just to try them on at once? Which specific slots do you want to use? Have you tested putting only one stick into slot A2? Did you remove the CPU to check every single pin to make sure none is crooked or broken? Does anything go wrong if you don't even install Windows yet, right in the BIOS? Maybe it's better to grab a Linux computer and try booting that instead. That could tell us if this is really just a hardware problem.
I just upgraded my motherboard's BIOS to the newest version today (E7D98IMS.B60). The processor hasn't changed at all, so nothing broke there. If pins get bent without being removed from the socket, did that happen? All of the hardware tests passed with flying colors. I'm ready to try installing Linux just to be sure everything still works right after this update.
When installing Ubuntu, things seem to get stuck right here (check the picture).
XMP had been turned off. I don't know if that's what you wanted, but here is the picture you asked for. Just open the casing to see it inside.
You don't really have to "install" Ubuntu if you just make sure your USB stick has special settings so it can start up like an operating system when you plug it in.
When starting up, it shows me some choices like "Ubuntu" or "graphics safe mode." Other options are listed too. Then it checks my hard drives for a while until I'm stuck at 33% on this file: ./pool/restricted/n/Nvidia-kernel-source-525_525.85.05-0ubtuntu0.20.04.1_amd64.deb. I had some errors happen once. At one point, the screen said "Try Ubuntu" or "Install Ubuntu." I picked Install because it looked better back then. The installation stopped right in the middle. Next time I'll just click "Try" and see what happens.
