It’s similar to a cloud storage service where you upload files from your computer to Google Drive, keeping them accessible online even after removing them locally. This was shared in a software and systems context since it wasn’t clear what other options existed.

It's similar to using a NAS that you can reach from any location. Extremely helpful when files are too large to attach via email. Perfect for storing backups as well.

You can keep the important images on Google Drive, but deleting them from your computer won’t remove them from the cloud. They’ll stay there unless you also delete them from your local storage.

Ensure Google Drive isn't tracking the folder unless you intend to use it on a PC.

I wouldn't rely solely on cloud services for backup. Physical copies like DVDs are far more dependable. Also, Google has only recently improved its image storage features. Not too long ago, the only option for saving photos was using Picasa.

I don’t rely on Google Drive anymore. I use a NAS with BitTorrent Sync. I can’t foresee the future, so I won’t guess how long Google will last. Still, for lasting data, hard drives and SSDs are preferable over DVDs.
