It’s a reasonable stance they adopt. Dodging and running are actions that happen during movement, like when using WASD, so there aren’t many other options. Yet, one of the benefits of PC gaming is that you can usually adjust the controls to fit your preferences. If it feels awkward, switch them out.
Adapt to the experience gradually; it usually doesn’t require more than a week or a couple of weeks of playing. Shift becomes simpler because it’s often the main command for starting or moving, especially if running is the default. Pressing Ctrl for crouching might feel a bit slower initially, as some games use "C" instead of the standard key.
I have a mouse with adjustable keys, so I added three buttons on my mouse and used the rest on the keyboard. It works well for me.
