The codec can't be altered with shadowplay because it relies on the GPU's built-in hardware. For tools like OBS, you can achieve speeds over 50 Mbps on newer cards, reaching up to around 150 Mbps.

On my 780ti the maximum is 50mbps on the laptop, but I found it goes up to 130mbps. Clearly some cards support higher bitrates. In OBS you can adjust the bitrate and switch codecs, and with an Intel CPU you can also use Intel QuickSync.

Using the lagarith codec is supported by Bandicam and DxTory. I've tried it myself and found it to be quite satisfactory. However, my storage space isn't large enough for lossless recordings. I recommend using Bandicam with lagarith and saving audio as .wav files, which has worked well for me.
