I purchased my setup in 2010 for a transition to graduate studies. It was one of the best offers on Newegg back then. Initially, it came with an i7-950 processor, Gigabyte GA-X58-UD3R motherboard, a Coolermaster HAF932 cooler, a CM V8 cooler (V8, impressive), 6GB DDR3 RAM, two HD5870 graphics cards, a PSU with some wattage, and two Dell 2709W monitors. I was a dedicated gamer back then but never attempted overclocking. Around 2012, a mishap with a Nalgene caused significant damage to the system—one card was destroyed. Fortunately, no further harm occurred. Always avoid drinking liquids near your computer after using tap water. By early 2015, after completing my degree and securing a job, I upgraded to an 850 Pro SSD, swapped the old graphics card for an R9 290 Tri-X, and expanded RAM to 24GB. I began experimenting with overclocking the i7-950, assuming its age wouldn’t matter. It performed decently at around 4GHz, peaking near 3.8GHz. Eventually, I returned to the original specifications. In late 2015, I became interested in racing and performed several engine swaps (S54 E36, California regulations for enthusiasts). My computer use dropped significantly. Around 2017, I learned about X58 Xeon upgrades and had some savings available. I bought an X5675 processor and attempted overclocking, achieving stable speeds of 4.5GHz at 215x21 with good temperatures. I still limit gaming to occasional sessions, but I don’t feel the need for a newer system right now. The machine has served me well despite being exposed to water and rough handling. My current hardware includes: an Xeon X5675 processor, a Gigabyte GA-X58-UD3R 2.0 motherboard with 24GB RAM at 1720MHz, an R9 290 Tri-X graphics card, an 850 Pro SSD, a large HDD, a Coolermaster HAF932 drive, a Logitech MX mouse, a Logitech wireless keyboard, and two Dell monitors (27-inch, 16:10, 1920x1200). The Dell 3415W monitor is 34-inch, 21:9, 3440x1440. I also own a Beyerdynamic DT990 600Ω speaker system and a Coolermaster Glacer 240 AIO cooler (though I haven’t installed it yet because I had to remove the motherboard). It’s compact and operates quietly.

Hey everyone, do you know if a high-performance northbridge might lead to overheating problems? I'm thinking about getting a fan soon, but it's not urgent right now. I might also grab the cooler later and inspect the board for any bent components when I have some free time off from studying.

Voltage operates automatically. I don’t recall it from memory. It functions around 50 volts without load. Very hot to handle.
