It seems like you're comparing the longevity of processors with different core counts. Generally, more cores don't always mean better aging performance—thermal management and manufacturing quality play bigger roles. If the boards are similar in price, the 8-core chip might offer better reliability over time despite having more cores.

More cores can boost performance, but 6 faster ones won’t always mean better results. Having more than 6 cores might cause issues later, especially with high-end games. It’s hard to predict if they’ll work well for RT tasks like gaming. I personally used a 12700 board after hearing about its capabilities, but my experience wasn’t great since the information was unreliable.

The 13600k Alder Lake is no longer relevant. Even at a higher price, I’d still choose the 13600k.

No?? The 13600k clock speed is higher and it has other improvements as well. The 13600k is literally an improved 12700k essentially. They all went up a sku. The 13700k is like a 12900k. All your losing is the 2 p cores with the 13600k. Getting a 12700k over a 13600k for the same price would be moronic. More cores, more cache, higher clock speed, better OC ability, DRASTICALLY better memory controller (DDR5 5600 vs 4800), I could go on and on, you are just plain wrong. 12700k: Total Cores: 12 # of Performance-cores 8 # of Efficient-cores: 4 Total Threads: 20 Max Turbo Frequency : 5.00 GHz Cache 25 MB Intel® Smart Cache Total L2 Cache 12 MB 13600k: Total Cores: 14 # of Performance-cores: 6 # of Efficient-cores: 8 Total Threads: 20 Max Turbo Frequency: 5.10 GHz Cache 24 MB Intel® Smart Cache Total L2 Cache 20 MB

The 13th generation offers greater cache capacity as well. You can't boost the overclocking potential of a 12th generation chip to add more cache. In my experience, I wouldn't revert to a 6-core setup from a 10-core chip, even though the 13600K provides solid performance. I chose the 13700KF since it includes eight full P cores, additional cache, and offers better value. It's similar to upgrading from last year's 12900KS for a lower price and more cache.

I believed the gap between a 12700k and a 12900k wasn't significant. That assumption isn't accurate.

Even then, they aren't exactly the same—13th gen offers faster clocks, more cache, and a superior memory controller. I don't know where this idea of "no real difference" is coming from. Raptor Lake is simply a clear upgrade.
