We were discussing the 12700k and 12900k models, and I see you prefer the 12900k over the 12900k. For gaming performance, it seems the distinctions aren’t really important since all these options are quite fast and don’t noticeably affect gameplay.

Right now there’s no indication a game will require more than 12 threads. That hasn’t happened before, which is why I’m considering an 8-core chip for gaming right now. The decision mainly comes down to how much confidence you have in game developers to deliver quality hardware. Personally, I’m skeptical and went with an 8-core instead of a more powerful option. I also explored the possibility of modifying older models with external clock chips, but it didn’t work out. Updated October 25, 2022 by Bombastinator

Right now there’s no indication a game will require more than 12 threads. That hasn’t happened before, which is why I’m considering an 8-core chip for gaming right now. The decision mainly comes down to how much confidence you have in game developers to deliver quality hardware. Personally, I’m skeptical and went with an 8-core instead of a more powerful option. The operating system and CPU determine this. - In a typical multi-threaded game, performance matches the slowest thread (bottleneck). The 13600 MHz clock speed and instruction per clock boost this. - For perfect synthetic multi-threaded tasks, the 13600k appears to outperform the 12700k.

We mean games require no more than six performance votes for gaming. Even if all cores were off, the 13600k would still outperform the 12700k’s eight.
