Yes, some titles leverage multiple cores effectively. While Battlefield 1 may run on up to six cores, other games also utilize multiple processing units for better performance.

Most people don’t need more than four processing units, and even when they do, four faster cores usually perform better than eight slower ones during gaming. That’s why the 7700K remains the top choice for high frame rates.

The 8700K offers double the cores compared to the 7700K, making it more powerful.

The 7700k typically experiences more frequent boosts, resulting in slightly better single-core speed.

Forza Horizon 3 demands significant processing power from multiple cores. Witcher 3 is mostly GPU-focused, but it could perform better with an i7/Ryzen in crowded environments such as Novigrad. There aren’t many other clear cases I can think of.

GTA V, Battlefield 1, Assassin's Creed... Numerous titles can leverage more than four cores; yet many remain limited to four if those cores aren't sufficiently fast. Benchmarks show a 7700K often stays under 50% usage, fully engaging all cores without taking full advantage of hardware features. Conversely, devices like the FX-8350 reach 60-70%, effectively utilizing around six cores. Generally, how Windows measures CPU activity—such as 6C/6T exceeding 67% or 8C/8T surpassing 50%—indicates potential for better performance with more than four cores. The actual benefit varies, sometimes only a slight improvement, other times the system could run optimally across all available cores.

FH3 struggled on multi-core CPUs because it relied heavily on single-threading. It’s now more evenly balanced, and my Ryzen matches the performance of my 4690K in Witcher 3.
