Hello Community, here are the details about the setup I recently completed: an i7 9700K running on an Asus Prime z390m Plus, paired with an AIO 240mm Gigabyte RTX 2080 Super Gaming (2x8GB DDR4, XMP enabled at 3000MHz) and Seasonic Focus FM Gold 650W (80+ Gold, NVMe + two SSDs). Display: Asus TUF Gaming VG27AQ at 165Hz.

I’m experiencing noticeable stuttering in certain games such as BO4, MW2 (new), NFS Heat, Two Point Hospital, Planet Zoo, and even Overwatch, The Division 2, AC: Odyssey, TW: Three Kingdoms, RDR2, Frostpunk, and Anno 1800 Temps. Despite having all drivers and bios updated, the performance remains suboptimal. I’ve tried a fresh Windows install on all storage devices and switched games between different SSDs, but the issue persists.

Additionally, stuttering occurs and coil whine disappears briefly during gameplay. Gsync settings are unchanged except for enabling VSync in NCP and turning it off in the game. It’s really frustrating to have such a significant impact on a game that costs thousands, yet I’m not getting the best experience. Thank you for your help!

It might be due to your i7 9700K supporting only 8 threads, while games require more. Check the current temperatures of both the CPU and GPU. Ensure your RAM is installed in slots 2 and 4, spaced apart.

They seem to need no more than eight processing units. The CPU is in the 50s range, the GPU tops the 60s, and there are two RAM slots available. Dual-channel configuration is supported.

cores and threads are distinct concepts. your processor has 8 cores and 8 threads. for instance, the Ryzen 7 3700X offers 8 cores and 16 threads while still performing better than your i7 9700K. certain games even begin utilizing 10 threads. once new consoles are released, it may take roughly 6 months to a year for them to adopt 16 threads in games.

They are positioned side by side or separated by a single gap.

He handled those games smoothly; it seems his CPU isn't causing any issues.

I thought that was the issue, but I wanted to bring it to your attention—likely it's not just the PSU and RAM. Have you increased the CPU and GPU speeds? Try disabling them and let me know what happens.

Turn off Game Mode/Game DVR unless you want to. Adjust RAM placement to slots 2 and 4, then experiment with XMP settings enabled and disabled to observe performance changes. Check the clock speeds of your 9700K and 2080S during games—likely around 3.8 GHz for both. Division 2 would have struggled significantly before MW or BO4 due to its higher CPU demand.
