Frequent small hits or microstutters show up in many high-end AAA games.
I'm dealing with a persistent small stuttering issue in certain games that really bothers me. I've captured some video evidence below. From what you see, it's not the best performance but it appears sporadically rather than consistently across every title. It seems to occur in a significant number of high-end AAA games, suggesting it's more likely related to software or settings rather than general hardware problems. I've tried several basic fixes—like updating graphics drivers and even reinstalling Windows four times—but nothing seems to resolve it. Since I've been working on this since my PC was a year ago, I recall experiencing stutters in older titles, but back then I wasn't playing new games as intensely. Please help me get the PC running smoothly again, maybe by switching back to a console. Here are my system details: RTX 3080, AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, 16GB RAM, Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 3200MHZ graphics, 5000D Power Supply, Corsair 850X RMX Plus case, and Windows 10. I've also used MSI Afterburner with a overlay on Days Gone. I haven't changed the BIOS yet.
@TacticalTuna You don't mention the board, but Ryzen and their supporting boards can be quite funny about RAM. You might check the board manufacturer's QVL for that board and processor combo to see if your RAM's SKU is listed. If not, could be a factor, and there seemed to be a pattern of this with Corsair RAM in particular. My 5900X drove me nuts for four months because it didn't like the first RAM kit I used, Ryzen seem to prefer dual-rank RAM (double-sided modules), but it doesn't end there. QVL is a big deal with AMD setups. Since installing RAM on the board manufacturer's QVL, constant freezing in sleep mode and no video every 8-12 cold starts has more or less ceased. One freak occurrence of each in four months since. Used to be something every day.
I haven’t experimented with most of what you mentioned about AMD drivers. MultiPlane Overlay and vBios are tools or updates related to system performance and graphics settings. If you could clarify these terms, I’d be happy to explain them and see if you’re interested in trying them. I haven’t updated the SSD firmware yet because I wasn’t aware it was a feature, and I also haven’t installed the BIOS yet.
I’m using the B550 Phantom Gaming 4/ac with Corsair Vengeance RAM at 3200Mhz. I’m considering a upgrade to 32GB and wondering if my current setup might be causing stutters, so I need recommendations for the best RAM option that could resolve the issue.
I’m sure I’ll give it a shot this week. It seems related to drivers like bios or maybe my system struggles with a component I own. The stutter is unpredictable and changes based on the game, with some titles I’ve never seen stuttered before—like Cyberpunk—and others that are well-optimized sometimes have minor issues.
Visit AMD's site to get the chipset drivers. Search for additional resources online. I'm ready to assist, though I can't spare time for long talks.
This depends on the manufacturer's guidelines for that specific board and processor setup. The 5600X is a Vermeer model, so ASRock provides its QVL for memory when paired with a Vermeer CPU... Otherwise, verify if your existing RAM is included. It might also be related to the exact SKU or part number (e.g., CMK64GX4M2C3000C15). https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B550 Phantom Gaming 4ac/index.asp#MemoryVM Edited January 2, 2023 by An0maly_76
