Here are some alternative ideas I’ve seen. For the 7900x3D in USD, 415D for 7900x3D 251D for 7700 non-x seems like a mix of options. Would it be better to go with an 8-core setup without any core parking and no X3D, or a 12-core system (which I think becomes a 6-core X3D version due to core parking) for gaming while still using the PC for work? Which would be more efficient in terms of energy use? I know the 7800x3D is out of reach for now, but what do others think? Any insights would be helpful.
For gaming under 50% of your budget, the 7900X3D is worth considering for extra cores, though the 7800X3D remains a solid option. The 7700 offers better value and performs well at 1440p or higher, especially with AAA titles that don’t demand top FPS. The 3D graphics cards add around 15% more performance but cost about 65% more.
Why not go for a 7900X or something else? It’s $350 with 12 cores and solid 3D chip performance. The gaming experience really depends on your games and the specific graphics card you have. The 7950X3D can’t improve the Wukong benchmark much because the UE5 engine is using up your GPU too much.
At my location everything (7900x3d, 7800x3d, 7900x) is roughly the same due to a sale. Watching would be BG3 2077 and new upcoming/unreleased UE5 games plus older titles with a 144hz screen. What graphics card do you own? The 7900X3D is in a tough position—either focus on boosting productivity and upgrade to something like the 7900/X or better the 7950X, or go for gaming with the 7800X3D. You can tweak both options only with a 7950X3D (I’ve done that but it’s expensive).
I think a 7800X3D or 7950X3D would work better, thanks to the 8-core CPU.
It seems a 7950 is too high, while a 7800x3d at the same price as the 7900x3d feels odd. A budget-friendly 7700 might be a better choice compared to those options. I’m thinking that switching down could really cut costs and give a big saving if I go with the 7700 tray.
