Quick thought: can you manage car acceleration on your PC using a controller like a gamepad? Probably not, since drivers force the throttle all the way down. That’s not ideal for you. You might want to skip getting a gamepad just because of this issue. Thanks.

No, I don't agree. Just press the gas pedal and it should work. It's not meant to be a driving sim, right? You need to go fast.

Playing online racing games without a game pad puts you at a serious disadvantage. You can control the car using a keyboard, but everyone is lagging behind you by at least thirty seconds in every race!

It's not always a simulation, it depends on your habits. I seldom rely on game controllers in racing games (except for pure sims, then I use the wheel), and so far in GTA Online I haven't fallen behind, except when people push me off the track. The main reasons for losing are collisions with other players.

22 victories and 6 setbacks in online play. Keyboard and mouse matter more than your device.

You don't require a controller for non-sim racing games in titles like this—just understanding when to stop and press the gas is enough. Simply knowing how things function can help you progress significantly with just a keyboard. A gamepad won<|pad|> can't give you godlike abilities in racing; I dominated dirt3 online using just a keyboard. It's about knowing when to stop and pump the gas, plus understanding which track sections you should take. Whether you go inside or outside the race track can really impact your performance.

I've shifted your finger from the keyboard and positioned it randomly at various moments to keep things interesting. I'm a keyboard racer for six years now and have become an expert. It requires patience, but once you get the hang of it, you're ready to win.

Funny how I always mess them up. Hope you join me in a race—we’ll find out!

I need to purchase a gamepad for helicopter control. The mouse functions aren't functioning properly.

360 gamepad controllers are affordable and simplify racing/vehicle control in GTA a lot. I alternate between kb+m for walking and controller when inside a car. Sure, you can drive with the kb, but it takes some getting used to.
