I own a gaming laptop from Asus: TUF FX504 GM. The HDMI port stopped working due to dust buildup. To fix it, I went to an Asus service center who suggested replacing the motherboard. The laptop still works fine except for that issue, and the new board is expensive. I currently use a gaming monitor (shorturl.at/eoGMS) and am looking for a way to connect it to my laptop. I’ve heard about USB A to HDMI adapters but none that support 1080p at 165Hz or HDR. Do you have any alternatives in India? Are there other converters that can handle high refresh rates without replacing the monitor?

1080p @ 165 Hz needs about 9.26 Gbps. With HDR it jumps to 11.57 Gbps. Your laptop's USB connections are capped around 5 Gbps, and no adapter can boost them beyond that. The HDMI port would likely need fixing. Need a reliable source? A direct link would help.

It should feature a display port. These USB devices cater to items with their own mini GPUs, suitable for simple 2D tasks or running software that mimics a GPU. This is strictly for 2D applications only. Performance is extremely sluggish.

It doesn't seem to be the case. The opposite side only has a Kensington lock. A note for the reader: those USB adapters won't fit a high-performance second display. You'll need to repair the HDMI connection. If you're confident dust is the issue, use cleaning tools. If the problem is more serious, replacing the board might be necessary.

Fixing a broken HDMI port by swapping out a motherboard is likely something a technician with a hot air gun and a few hours of practice can handle easily. It’s best to check out third-party repair options.

Did you check the bottom to confirm it's on a daughter board?

I attempted it too. The staff at the service center handled the cleaning, but the port remains non-functional.

I struggle with relying on outside repair services. Are there alternative options beyond this?
