File size loss occurred unexpectedly.
I observed unexpectedly lost 100gb of storage on my laptop. Using WinDirStat revealed an unknown file that cannot be deleted. Checking restore points didn’t help. No backup exists. I’m unsure what caused this or how to recover it. I’ve attached a screenshot of the scan for reference.
Show hidden files, navigate to the folder, then remove it manually.
You choose every folder and go to properties, and the total size includes the drive space. This calculation might take a minute or two.
The file is now accessible through the file system. You can locate it manually and remove it. Watch for unusually large folders using the top-down approach. I previously faced this issue while running a VM, and during file transfers in or out of the VM, it would copy files to a temporary folder without deleting them.
