I was setting up a new cooler and accidentally removed the stock AMD one for a reason (it was a tough day). The CPU came out with it. After that, two pins were missing from the socket—it wasn’t there. I assumed the CPU was dead. I bought a 3500X plan to upgrade, but my ROG Strix B550-F isn’t booting and still shows RGB. Ideally, I’d want to confirm the motherboard is dead before getting a new CPU.
Are you certain the pins were completely detached? Many AM4 owners (including me) removed their CPU by pulling it out during cooling installation, because of the poor retention design. Often only a few pins bend rather than break. See it clearly with a magnifying glass.
It seems like the CPU might be damaged. On my machine with the 5800X3D, two pins are broken, yet it still works. It’s possible two important pins came off. Make sure the CPU is centered properly in the slot—check that all sides are at the same height using a flashlight.
One of the pins resembles the spi_clk pin. This explains why it's necessary—without it, the CPU can't load the ROM and the system won't start.
You might attempt to detach a couple of pins from an outdated CPU or donor component and insert them into the available slots. It’s a final option, but the device becomes unusable without those pins.
