Extreme stuttering occurs consistently across every game.
So until a week back everything was working well, the games were running smoothly... Until I completed Mass Effect 3. All my games stopped working and became completely unplayable. The lag is so severe it’s not just the Xbox app, and I’m not sure if it’s Windows 10. My system temperatures are normal, loads stay under 60%, so it’s not a hardware issue. I still get decent FPS, around 144 or more, but the stuttering makes everything unusable. Anyone else had something similar? Otherwise, the browser and internet are fine. Got any tips?
Hardware: R9 390 Saphire Nitro, Intel I5-6600k, Asus Z-170A, multiple Noctua fans, EVGA Supernova Gold 750W, 2x 1TB HDDs, one empty and one full of games, 1 Samsung 850 SSD for OS and CSGO. Thanks!
Did you select the choice where all organic components merge with synthetic ones? That implies you’re integrated into your system, possibly affecting performance. Joking aside, it could mean your graphics drivers are damaged or DirectX is malfunctioning. Usually, reinstalling the drivers (a clean install) or using DDU would help.
I'm going to give it a shot and I think the recent Windows Security update was what happened. After that, I turned off the Xbox app features. Sure, my games are all genuine—I never got hacked or downloaded anything shady because I'm a responsible guy. Unless Steam libraries are causing trouble, then yeah, everything's fine. The ending I got was hilarious; I didn't realize it existed. You have three options in front of you, but I'm moving slowly, so I'm thinking, "If I need to walk around the whole area to destroy something, maybe I should shoot him." So I did it, fired, "As you wish," the 4th ending, Reapers take over the galaxy. I was shocked—definitely not in the original game, but it caught me off guard. Just to be sure, DDU, are you talking about the software that strips graphics drivers for AMD/Nvidia cards so you can reinstall them? Cool, thanks!
I encountered a comparable issue with AMD ReLive. Is it available? If yes, consider disabling it.
Your RAM might be quite limited, possibly an extremely slow LPDD3. Testing games more precisely with Frap and sharing 1% and 0.1% lows will help highlight stuttering better than general descriptions. Also, look for background apps that could be consuming CPU or GPU power, or check if your mouse battery is low.
I realized I was missing some important details. My setup includes a 16GB system with 2666MHz RAM, a Ripjaws RAM model and a Logitech G502 mouse, plus a Corsair Strafe keyboard. Despite smooth performance in most games—CPU and GPU staying under 15% load—I still experience occasional freezing. Every couple to three seconds I see just a second of stuttering, then the game jumps back. If I don’t release the mouse, my character keeps moving while the screen shows only one frame, making games like Dark Souls nearly unplayable. The audio stays steady, so I’m leaning toward a software problem rather than hardware issues. I’ve never heard of AMD ReLive either. I’ll send a report after testing some fixes and adjustments.
