I spent 4 hours on this. My asrock z390 taichi ultimate has a retention clip holding 1 side of both connectors in. The cinnectors are back to back. So i can only put a hand on 1 corner. Theres a bump shape on oppisite side keeping it in too. So 3/4 sides are untouchable. I need this cable removed so i can test a new board fir post. What can i do to remove thiw cord? As you can see retention is part of mb. Nothing works. I just wanted to test a diff board usimg this psu...
I attached the screwdrivers and attempted to pull them out, but there was nothing to remove. There’s nowhere to place a screwdriver. What should I do?
It seems like the connection might be reversed (or maybe the clip isn’t what I see in the photo). Usually the clip faces away from the heatsink, which makes removal difficult because it’s stuck inside. If it’s facing the wrong way, it won’t be clipped anywhere and just needs pulling out. On motherboards, these clips can be tricky to reach. I often use long pliers for this kind of job. Just be careful not to cut or pinch the wires. It’s better to take a break and pull the board out of the case if needed—this gives more space and reduces the chance of damaging anything. Sometimes the PSU is stuck too, but usually there’s enough wire to get it out for work.
I can handle the object with my hands, but there are issues. The retention bracket is positioned far from the CPU, and the notch that blocks access makes it impossible to grip the CPU directly. The other side is completely out of reach. Only one side seems usable at a time, and I’m unsure what to do with it. Also, I’m not sure what these pliers are for.
I believe your CPU might be obstructing the process. Consider removing the CPU cooler. There may also be another issue requiring attention.
Theres a piece of plastic on the edge. Ir blocks gripping the connetor. Its part of the motherboard. Meaing. I cannot grip both sides and pull like a normsl person.
Please note, I managed to get to the issue, but the cable's end opposite the blocked one has a curved edge, making it hard for the CPU cooler to make proper contact even without it.
You don’t have to tightly hold it, just let go of the clip and pull the whole thing out. If you can insert a screwdriver to push the clip down and use your other hand to pull the cable, that should work. As @OhioYJ mentioned, removing the cooler will create more space for access. Make sure there are no bends in those connectors. Are you certain the “bump” isn’t the retention clip holding it? Even if you manage to reach the clip with a screwdriver, you should be able to carefully pull the cable out.
The screwdriver isn't available. My tool doesn't have a clip, as mentioned before. The board's design uses plastic to secure components and prevent them from being forced out. There are no clips—just plastic on both sides that can grab connectors. On one side it curves, making it difficult to grip. Even if you try to insert the screwdriver between the plastic and the cord, it just presses against the board with metal, so it won't work.
