It doesn’t seem like a wireless problem or an outdated router either. It looks like you’re aiming for a direct wired connection between the modem and your room to get the quickest possible internet for gaming. In that case, I’d agree with what I’d tell my own child—just go ahead and connect it hardwired. Paying for the internet isn’t worth it if you can skip it entirely. If someone replaces the old unit without changing its location, nothing should shift, but they might just get a sense of entitlement.
