Tell your dad it’s better to avoid using an old router or modem. Installing one in your room will be safe and won’t affect your brain. You’re planning to build a PC, so focus on a solid setup instead of buying extra hardware like wireless adapters. That way you’ll have a better experience and avoid any unnecessary risks. Thanks for helping!

You can connect your PC straight to any router I've seen over the past few years. A 5-year-old router (model-dependent) seems fine. What should you choose instead? Either Ethernet or Wi-Fi—your router probably already has Ethernet, so you won’t need a separate Wi-Fi card.

Discuss a powerful search tool named Shodan. It's a resource for finding hacked routers.

A snakey boy is always preferable to Wi-Fi. If you have the option, use a wired connection. You can switch off Wi-Fi whenever you like.

The router and/or modem lack an Ethernet port.

Most routers from the past decade should function properly. As long as your modem can handle the internet speed you’re paying for, it’s acceptable. If your modem and router are located far apart, you’ll need to connect them with a cable.

They possess Ethernet connectivity, yet the modem model is CPE B593.

It doesn’t matter much; a budget modem works perfectly for online gaming. I purchased the most affordable 4-port Arris model available and it manages the 100mb connection from Comcast quite smoothly.

The modem is more than five years old. As long as it supports the speed tier your subbed to, it’s okay—just remember it’s a modem, not a gateway, so keep the modem and router separate. For the routers, I’d prefer staying within at least one generation of the latest WiFi standard.
