Experiencing unexpected shutdowns on your Ryzen 5 5600X?
Based on what you shared, the recent BIOS updates addressed the USB connection problem (though I haven’t experienced this issue yet). Many users who reported fixing freezing problems linked it to chipset driver issues. After installing the newest drivers from my motherboard manufacturer, the freezing persisted. I removed the drivers and reinstalled them via MSI again, but still faced the same issue. I’m planning to follow up in about 24 hours if it recurs. Other suggestions mentioned included disabling the AMD Cool & Quiet feature, though I couldn’t locate that setting in the MSI BIOS for my board.
In the same boat as my friend, I've already tested various RAM modules and swapped out the motherboard. The latest stable BIOS (v7B93v1B dated 2021-01-27) and the most recent chipset driver from MSI (v2.11.26.106 dated 2021-02-23) haven't fixed the problem. If a solution emerges, I'll definitely reach out again with more information, though I'm not optimistic yet because it seems to be a relatively isolated issue with few people aware of it.
I'm not sure about the exact setup, but I can help you figure it out based on common configurations for the 5600X. Let me know if you'd like more details!
Motherboard: Asus TUF Gaming X570 Pro (Bios 3402) – newer versions are available (Chipset: 20.40.0.3). CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X RAM: G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3600C16D-32GTZRC GPU: EVGA RTX3080 FTW3 Ultra Cooler: Lian Li Galahad 360 Boot Drive: WD SN750 NVMe SSD 1TB PSU: SeaSonic Focus GX Gold 750W OS: Windows 10 Pro Build 19042 (not yet updated). The only changes I made were newer BIOS, around six weeks ago, and switching RGB firmware from Armoury Crate to Aura. I don’t believe those updates helped much. I also swapped my other 5600X for a TUF Gaming B550 with T-Force 3200MHz CL18, but it’s still using the BIOS that came with the motherboard. I haven’t made any updates in more than a month.
I've discovered the answer that works for everyone involved. Turning off Global C-State Control resolved the issue. After disabling it, my system ran smoothly for more than five days without any freezes. It seems the problem was the CPU not receiving enough power when idle or under light load. Some motherboards include a feature called AMD Cool n' Quiet, which manages power delivery during inactivity. This setting affects how the CPU handles low-power states. One article mentioned that disabling this control could lock the CPU at 3800Mhz, but that doesn't match my setup. I'm using Auto OC in Ryzen Master and don't know if it's related, but I wanted to share this information.
I face the same problem. Motherboard model ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming, CPU Ryzen 5 5600X, RAM Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2x8GB) at 3600MHz CL18 DDR4, GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, cooler Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240R ARGB AIO, boot drive ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro M.2 NVMe SSD 1TB, power supply Cooler Master MWE Bronze V2 750W, operating system Windows 10 Home version 19042.
I've been facing instability for a while on my 5600x B550 setup. Problems seemed worse when using the DOCP memory profile, leading me to suspect a memory issue. I've swapped in different RAM modules without fixing the problem. After reading this advice, I disabled Global C-State Control and it worked—stable even with the DOCP profile. Still unsure if my CPU has a hidden problem, but it’s great to have some stability now.
