Experiencing problems with CTD and RTX 3080 graphics card.
It seems the power supply is quite capable, matching the S tier on the forum list. Running several games without problems has been possible, especially under heavy loads like Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. I tested it by running Furmark with Prime95 for two hours after installing the graphics card, confirming it handled the demand. A BSOD only appeared when Chrome was open, leaving no strain on the GPU or CPU. When switching to an RTX 3080, I managed to play BO4 for hours without any issues, and many others have achieved similar results with lower wattage units.

I think 4x8gb is a bit too much for a Ryzen CPU to handle. Two options: lower the frequency (try setting it manually at 2933 while XMP is active) Or adjust timings and increase voltage slightly. 1.370v can help avoid droop. For certain games, turn off "multi-core rendering" and "post processing" to see if performance improves a bit.
Could cutting back on RAM by two sticks make a difference? I’m not really relying on 32 gigabytes, just focusing on gaming. If I sell the extra unit I already have, it might be worth considering. I bought two of the same set and installed them together.
Sure, that's a valid choice. We'll find out more after some testing, right?
It's simple to try, and if it works for your issue, that's enough. If not, it's still okay.
I reduced the memory speed and increased the voltage, but it didn’t help. I then used only two sticks and still faced issues. I contacted MSI who said something is definitely wrong with the board. I’m planning to return the board for an RMA and keep the Asus B550 Strix as a backup once it’s replaced. I also ordered an Asus B550 Strix and a Seasonic Focus 850w 80+ Gold to rule out power supply problems, hoping the new board will work better. I’ll either keep the MSI board after it’s repaired or sell it to recover my investment once it functions properly. Thanks for your assistance!
I really thought this whole situation would deter me from purchasing MSI motherboards, particularly regarding the RMA process. It seems more widespread in the PC industry than I realized, but I've never noticed a company charging customers for shipping labels. Usually they just send an email with a label, which still confuses me. Maybe this is becoming more common?
It's a bit outdated and lacking polish, yet it's not entirely surprising. Consider it extra effort to discourage customers from initiating returns. Honestly, I think they should offer stronger initial support that can handle that pressure and absorb shipping costs... though perhaps their financial teams manage more complex situations now.
They claim the motherboard is faulty and it's covered under warranty, yet they’re asking you to cover shipping costs? That seems questionable. If the product is no longer covered, it makes sense to proceed without extra charges. Edited June 22, 2022 by Bombastinator
