Experiencing interruptions or gaps in video playback when using a second monitor?
If the old CPU resolves the problem, could power consumption be the key factor? I think I might have PBO enabled, XMP activated, and everything maintaining its previous speed and settings except for the new CPU (which is running slightly slower under load).
I thought this might be related to Nvidia cards, but it could affect more systems. Previously, I experienced this when watching a video on a 60Hz display while playing a game on a 144Hz one. It might connect to varying framerates or VRR (G-Sync/Freesync). I resolved it by connecting my second monitor directly to the CPU display output. However, you'll need a CPU with integrated graphics, which the Ryzen 7 5700X3D likely lacks.
uncertain about the focus on the power supply since it hasn't been mentioned as a concern yet. similarly, the GPU isn't consuming excessive power when idle. my perspective suggests the problem stems from mismatched refresh rates making it tough for the PC to handle video frame division between them. this was a common issue in older systems when trying to display one video on two monitors with different refresh rates. nowadays, it's less frequent. adjusting to a 60Hz monitor might resolve the issue if it's a minor driver-related problem.
It seems I focused mainly on the changes since the problem began, especially the CPU which clearly uses more power. The monitor is indeed quite old, but it functions properly with DP and my Macbook, suggesting the issue might lie in the power supply or the HDMI cable itself.
It seems the issue popped up recently after installing the new CPU, which is puzzling since the previous model ran smoothly. Also, turning off the main monitor or changing the refresh rate appears to make a difference (though it doesn’t for Plex).
