Hello, I'm using an Intel i5 4670K and considering upgrades to either an Intel i7 9700K or AMD Ryzen 7 3800X or 3700X. My needs include video editing, gaming, and some 3D design software for engineering classes next year. With a budget of around $350, which option do you recommend—Intel or AMD—and why?

They use SMT on Ryzen 7 while i7 lacks HT support; both offer 8 cores. Intel is mainly recommended for Adobe and gaming setups.

For tasks requiring 8 cores or high threading, opt for the 9700k; it lacks the necessary threads and Hyperthreading for those workloads. Consider a Ryzen 7 instead, as it offers better value. Plus, the motherboard supports modern features and isn’t limited by older Intel designs.

Hold off for the 10th generation Intel or the 4th generation Ryzen. The 4th generation Ryzen will wipe everything out after we start shipping from Taiwan.

If it's actually on the market early, I question its value compared to other options. The 10th Gen Intel might not be worth the wait, and the 4th Gen Ryzen likely won't arrive until later in the year.
