I rely on this for mostly gaming and some rendering tasks. I'm opting for a 3700X over 3600X to ensure future compatibility. Planning to use this CPU for at least five years—no budget constraints here. Am I making the correct choice, or should I save and pick the 3600X GPU? The MSI RTX 2060 gaming Z with the specified components sounds solid.

This price offers great value and should remain useful for at least five years.

the CPU yes, but the other parts vary from "questionable" to "OMG why". Mobo is also not listed.

Well, if budget isn't an issue... 3700x would be great for extra cores during rendering, though gaming performance won't noticeably change. You might consider a 3600 with a 2070 or 2060 super. I don't know local prices or whether you already own the 2060 model.

It appears the setup is primarily aimed at gaming, making it more efficient to allocate resources toward the GPU, memory, and a fitting mainboard—unless you already own those components. A CPU upgrade in five years should be manageable.

Suggested to sit on a 1600 AF for 90 bucks until the 16-core drops in cost, but if you're purchasing a CPU to keep for five years at 3700x.

I already have the 2060... I remember when it was released a few years ago. Right now, I'm using an i5 6600 (NOT K), which I got when Skylake came out. I'm only updating the CPU and motherboard.

Sorry for the mix-up... I didn’t say those parts were already yours. Here’s what you have: MSI RTX 2060 gaming graphics, Antec vp550 v2 power supply, SSD-970 EVO 500GB, Corsair RAM (16GB x 8GB, 3200MHz), 1TB HDD and 2TB SSD, an i5-6600 processor on a Gigabyte B150 M. D3H. Just the CPU and motherboard are getting upgraded. I heard newer consoles use CPUs that match or exceed the 3600X—so upgrading to the 3700X makes sense. You’re planning to keep using your GPU for the next couple of years. Are you on the right path?

The issue is about the gigabyte B150M device, it's all about the gigabytes. No need to bring up the board since that doesn't affect the situation. It's definitely the gigabyte part that matters!
