I've been having issues with my system not wanting to boot when I enable D.O.C.P. settings in BIOS. I have made various voltage, frequency, and timing adjustments, including the ones included in the "for Dummies" thread. The RAM refuses to run any higher than 2133MHz.. I've read that Ryzen doesn't like 4 DIMM setups, maybe that is the issue? Maybe the system doesn't like the RAM? I'm certain it probably isn't top of the line, but it was there for a good price. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong? There's no sense in the extra memory, if I can't get it running at least CLOSER to its rated speeds. In the end, will it really matter? I was always under the impression that Ryzen loved high speed memory, so I figured I could benefit from the extra speed. This is the setup I'm currently testing this on: ASUS PRIME B450-Plus Ryzen 2700x Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4x8gb) 3200MHz (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16)
Four dimms presents greater challenges for stable performance on budget motherboards. Premium boards typically feature wider traces or optimized memory layouts that enhance signal quality, making it easier to access memory quickly. Generally, X570 boards perform adequately even with four dimms. Ryzen processors gain significant performance from faster memory speeds, as communication relies heavily on memory responsiveness. Latency and bandwidth matter most. DOCP supports various speeds; if 3200 isn't optimal, lower options like 3000 or 2933 might work. Adjusting the memory voltage manually could also improve results.
Your board should work fine at 3200mhz with four DIMM slots, though the CPU memory controller is only rated for 2933mhz. I’ll set the DOCP profile and manually adjust the frequency to 2933mhz—probably it will run, just with slightly loose timings.
I can increase the frequency to 3600mhz across two dimms on my R7 1700 using manual overclocking. Once I reach four dimms, the default settings (2666mhz) are applied because of the CPU memory controller and possibly the board specifications, which seem to cap at around 2933mhz across four settings.
On a 2700 with 4 RAM sticks, I'd set: frequency at 2667 MHz, voltage at 1.35, SOC at 1.1
I've heard some advice, but back then I was focused on getting good value. The setup provided a 3200MHz profile with adjustable frequency, so timing and voltage stayed fixed. I experimented with 3000 and 2933 settings using the given parameters, but nothing worked. I also tried raising the voltage slightly from 1.35v to 1.4v, but again no success.
I reviewed the information and attempted it using 2933 with the voltage and timing settings from the 3200 DOCP profile. It didn't work.
