I haven't ever overclocked a CPU before, but I thought it might help to make a few small adjustments to my motherboard's overcharge settings. I noticed a noticeable boost in performance—my games ran smoother, like Last of Us now hit 80-90 FPS at 1080p with the RTX 3070, up from 130 FPS before. That improvement surprised me; is this typical? My CPU increased from just over 4.5 GHz to above 4.7 GHz after overclocking.

It doesn't matter how you adjusted things. Your outcomes are completely out of the ordinary. I'm not claiming you achieved better performance, but the boost you're seeing isn't close to what you're actually getting. A 200MHz increase on a CPU from 4.5GHz to 4.7GHz is only about 4.5% improvement, yet you're reporting an 80FPS to 130FPS jump—about a 62.5% rise? That's also not taking into account your previous GPU limitations.

Adjusting your CPU's performance won't reliably boost frame rates by more than 60%, unless your system is extremely constrained. A modest improvement might occur in low-end scenarios, otherwise the GPU plays a bigger role. If you try it, record the settings carefully, reapply the changes, and confirm everything matches to ensure accurate results.

Significant improvements are possible beyond the base specs, potentially reaching around 60% gains. The 5900X can match or even surpass the X3D at certain resolutions. It’s capable of reaching up to 5150MHz across multiple cores. I didn’t view the video.

Many reviews claim the 5950X can reach 5Ghz across the board, but my processor failed beyond 4.7Ghz and ended up underperforming, so I now run it at its default speed. On the flip side, it still outperforms the 5800X3D in single-core games. However, it can't match the 5800X3D when the game relies heavily on low latency V-CACHE. That difference is noticeable—about a night or day on 1% lows—and maintaining a steady frame rate above 60fps is much harder than just reaching an average of 120fps with occasional stutters. For instance, switching from the 5950X to the 7800X3D brought more significant gains, especially in Starfield, with frame rates soaring and load times dropping from 10 seconds to just 1–3 seconds. These improvements aren't achievable through simple overclocking.
