Hey, I’m not very familiar with my new PC yet, but I really want to understand everything. How accurate are those core speeds? And can I disable the two LEDs on the Asus GPU and turn on the mainboard’s startup to fix the appearance?
Your setup runs at an auto-overclocked level, probably due to MCE technology. This can be a trick used by some motherboard makers. It’s correct information, though it implies you’re handling roughly twice the maximum power for your CPU.
The speed mentioned is accurate, but it shouldn't reach 5.1 GHz unless you've overclocked it yourself... Are you? If not, your BIOS might be handling things incorrectly, and I’d recommend updating it. A 9900k processor shouldn’t exceed 5 GHz by default, and I suspect it’s drawing excessive voltage if it is running at that frequency. Edited May 29, 2020 by SansVarnic
It seems this setup doesn't work as intended. Both parameters should cause instability. Reminder: damaging LEDs with force can shorten their lifespan.
CPU-Z indicates "x51.0 (8-50)" meaning the 5.1Ghz is below the maximum boost for all cores. My 9900K is configured to boost up to 5.2Ghz on up to four cores, which aligns with this result.
AI Overclocking is essentially a DIY approach, typically handled by Asus. I wouldn't recommend it. It's highly probable that it's applying excessive voltage. Achieving 5.1 GHz on a 9900k chip today is challenging, as those processors were limited in optimization. My 9900k could handle it, but maintaining the necessary cooling would be risky, even with an aggressive custom setup. The main concern is the voltage it generates—far beyond what's stable and safe. I wouldn't rely on this method; for overclocking, manual adjustments are safer.
