DX12 works on Windows 7.
Windows 10 was released with complete DX12 compatibility. How about those still using Windows 7? My machine has a 980 Ti and is supposedly DX12.1 ready. Alright, what about Windows 7? Can’t we get DX12 without the operating system support? Is M$ trying to complicate things again, or will DX12 work on Windows 7?
It's an OS released in 2009. I really question if they'll adopt DX12 on it. To be honest, Vista didn't even support DX11 when it launched as I recall.
Not compatible. WDDM 2.0 requires DX12, which only works on Windows 10. Your graphics card may support it, but the operating system doesn’t.
Windows 7 still seems to have many users, but this is unbelievable if it's true. We waited more than a year for DX12, my old 780 came with it, and M$ insists they can push Windows 10 only with DX12 support, even though my $650 Ti version works fine. What's going on?
Windows 7 remains the most popular operating system today. Despite its age, it continues to be widely used for six years.
So? It's still old and Microsoft wants people to move over to the new OS. DX12 is designed to run with Windows 10, it's more work and money for them to get it working with Windows 7, an old OS. Loads of people still use XP, but no one expects DX12 to come to XP.
