I’m just getting started with Ryzen, recently moving to models using the 3700X and 2600 chips. I’ve heard mixed things about the memory controller in these processors—especially when dealing with fast RAM or multiple sticks. There seems to be some concern that it might not handle high-speed memory well, and maybe the integrated memory controller isn’t very reliable with a 4-pack setup. On my 3700X side, I currently have two 16 GB modules at 3600 with XMP enabled. I’m curious if using this configuration might affect the CPU’s lifespan by increasing stress on the controller. For the other system with two 8 GB modules at 3200, I’m wondering whether adding another similar kit could cause problems and if it might put extra wear on the IMC.
I've been struggling a lot with memory training lately. (X670e plus 7600X) I've spent years assembling PCs, created servers, and set up "pro" rigs for CAD and video editing... The CPU's lifespan remains unaffected, or if it does, it's so minor it goes unnoticed by anyone. For the 4 sticks, AM4 handles them well on newer chips. I'm running it smoothly without any problems. Imc longevity is irrelevant when operating at standard speeds or xmp. It remains unimportant on Zen CPUs as they peak around 1.1-1.2v according to some sources. There are valid scenarios for the APU where imc values change significantly with vsoc, but most people aren’t familiar with the APU capabilities of Renoir or Cezanne. There’s no solid data on imc strain, and any degradation would likely be minimal. The main impact would be reduced maximum RAM clock speeds, which mainly affects desync FCLK performance—still achievable at 3800-4000 even with a quad-core setup. I push 1.7v VTT on my i7 930 without noticeable issues, though I haven’t tested stability above 3100 MHz. Running at 1.5v is safe and within the recommended range, so it’s not surprising. Voltage changes don’t affect imc performance, but running 2.6V with a weak 1GB Samsung stick could cause problems.
I've noticed more discussions on this site about problems with G.Skill. The truth is, four sticks aren't suitable for Zen 4. It looks like G.Skill was mainly sold from questionable sellers on Amazon UK, so I switched to Corsair which offered better timing options at a lower cost. In short, the same performance was achieved as Gamers Nexus only doubled its capacity for testing purposes.

Switching to a recognized Hynix M-die G.Skill kit with EXPO usually resolved the issue immediately. It's become quite common now that when discussing Zen4 memory problems online, Corsair is often mentioned first—and I just have to accept it. AMD included all reviewer kits with G.Skill 6000CL30 EXPO at launch, so the exact same kit I bought a year ago has performed perfectly ever since.
