Dual vs Quad memory kit?
Dual vs Quad memory kit?
I currently own two 8GB modules at 2666MHz from Corsair RGB Pro Vengeance, but I’m considering a 64GB upgrade. I need to compare whether the benefits of two 16GB kits are worth it versus one 4x16GB kit. For speed, a 3200MHz option would seem ideal if it were a quad, though Amazon lists a 3600MHz model for £398 versus a 4x16GB kit at £850. A dual setup of two 16GB DDR4 3200 modules costs only £174, which could be cheaper than a full quad if I buy two. Keep in mind these prices are from RGB kits, and you’ll likely move your PC to a desktop later. What do you think?
Purchasing two dual kits instead of a quad might lead to issues at 3200MHz, making it impossible to return the item since they aren't confirmed for that configuration. This tends to affect first and second generation Ryzen processors, while third generation should work without problems.
Thanks a lot! I think the £80 coupon makes sense since I wouldn’t want to buy a quad kit. Appreciate the tip!
Also keep in mind, if you receive two dual channel kits at 3600mhz it would function similarly to a quad, but having two at 3200mhz would be significantly more affordable. For your setup, you'd likely feel a noticeable difference between 3200 and 3600?
