It's likely necessary to input the real key at the origin.

Using a cracked version of the game prevents access to Dragon Age Keep because it needs connection to Origin servers.

A crack stops you from playing Dragon Age Keep, so you have to stick with the standard character options.

It seems Dragon Age Keep functions as a platform for exchanging choices and outcomes within the game.

I don’t share many interests with people who enjoy the same games, which makes it hard for me to join in. Yet my moral concerns are hindering how easily I’d want to participate. I’ll need to talk to them.

Are you referring to the standard background settings, or would you like to know how to import your choices from Origins?

I see your desire to stay within legal boundaries, which is admirable. If you're interested in helping the developer, purchasing a key and then downloading the files would be the right approach.

You seem to be fine with the current path. It's interesting how default options can steer the story toward Alistair and Morrigan being together, and Leliana grieving her loss. I'm sure your decisions have broader consequences, but it could end up similar to The Witcher 3 or Telltale's Game of Thrones, where earlier choices only slightly shift the outcome.
